Autonics TCN4S-24R temperature controller (48 × 48 mm, dual display, PID)

TCN4S-24R is Autonics' economical dual-display temperature controller, showing process value (PV) and set value (SV) at once in a 48 × 48 mm DIN front. The -24R code means 2 alarm outputs, 100 – 240 VAC supply and relay plus SSR output.

According to the Autonics datasheet it uses a new PID algorithm with 100 ms sampling, selectable relay or SSR output (cycle and phase control with SSRP) and accepts both thermocouples and RTDs – suiting most ovens, plastic presses, packaging machines and heated tanks.

Wiring and setup

• Connect 100 – 240 VAC to the power terminals; wire the sensor to the input terminals observing thermocouple polarity.
• Set the input type (In-t) to match your sensor and select °C.
• Choose relay or SSR output to suit the load; use an SSR with heat sink for large heaters.
• Enter SV, select ON/OFF (with hysteresis) or PID; run auto-tuning (AT) to find P, I and D automatically.
• Configure AL1/AL2 for high/low temperature or sensor break alarms.

PID parameters

• Proportional band 0.1 – 999.9 °C; integral and derivative time 0 – 9,999 s.
• Control period 0.5 – 120 s (longer for relay than SSR to extend contact life).
• ON/OFF hysteresis 1 – 100 °C; settings retained for about 10 years.

FAQ

• Can TCN4S-24R run on 24 V? No – -24R is 100 – 240 VAC; the 24 VAC / 24 – 48 VDC version is TCN4S-22R.
• Can it drive an SSR? Yes, output is selectable between relay and 12 VDC SSR drive.
• Does it read Pt100? Yes – DPt100 and Cu50, plus K, J, L, T, R, S thermocouples.
